Well I have gone off and done it. For years I have been toying with the idea of going back to teaching. After being retired for almost a year, I am taking the giant step back into the classroom. I will be teaching Chemistry at Seguin High School. A few things have changed since 1981 when the last bell rang on my last day of school, but with the support of Sally and all my teacher friends(new and old) I will figure out all the new jargon, methodology, acronyms, etc associated with modern education. Even if I get all that figured out, there is still going to be the monumental task of motivating 150 or so students(evidently, I can expect some very unique individuals). Can I connect with them? Can I bring chemistry into their lives in an exciting way? First day of school is August 23rd( What happened to starting school after Labor Day?). As the school year progresses, I will periodically post my thoughts on teaching in the 21st century. Wish me luck, I'll need all I can get.
You can do it!
