Father's Day

This year Father's Day was spread over two weekends. The first weekend, Kurt and Agata were here. Our tradition for Father's Day is to go someplace(usually University Camp at Wimberley) to enjoy the water and this year was no exception.  On Saturday, we went tubing on the San Marcos river from Hwy 20 bridge to Leisure Camp.  It was a nice and mostly shaded two hour float and just a few other floaters.  Later that day, Wayne and Shane and nieces, Wesli and Braydi came over to visit and go fishing. Wesli(who by the way loves to fish), Braydi(who was after her first catch) and Agata(who had never fished before) all caught trophy perch.

Even though we are in the middle of a severe drought, the Geronimo Creek(our little retreat from the heat) is flowing clear and cool.

On actual Father's Day, we were enjoying the water again, this time just sitting in the creek with Agata and Kurt and we were joined  by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bruce and Ann Forester. What I mean when I say "sitting in the creek" is that we take lawn chairs out into the creek in a shallow area where we can sit and let our legs dangle in the water..it is very relaxing as we soak in the coolness of the water and listen to the sound of the rapids..

The following friday, Erin, Chris, Sara, Justin and the grandkids arrived. The next few days were full of  fun activities. We went to Luling for the Watermelon Thump parade.  (Side triva.... Sally was Watermelon Thump Royalty in 1965.) Went to the movies to see "Cars Two".  Rode the train at   Landa Park in New Braunfels.  Spent lots of wet and cool time with grandkids in the creek.  Lucy and Grace found a special spot on the creek bank where  they could jump off(this was a first for them),  Haley went on a Field Trip in the creek and the babies slept.

On Tuesday, my sister, Shelly, and her kids(Natalie,Jessica, and Jeffery) came over to visit and sit in the creek. Our neighbor, Nicki Helms, and her kids(Kelly, Taylor and Morgan) also came down to the creek at the same time... Some of the kids helped me make  some improvements to our dam. After playing in the water..finding bugs and minnows, etc,  the older kids went fishing. I was there to help with the worms .It was fun to watch Lucy show Jessica how to cast...she actually did a great job.

Famous grandkid quotes to never be forgotten:

Haley....... "Poppy, take me on a field trip" and she grabs my hand.
Lucy........ "Poppy, take a picture of my dimples so you will be able to see them later."
Grace........"Poppy, you can't be the King, you have to be a prince because I am going to marry you!"
