Eastern Hognose snake

Eastern Hognose (sometimes called "Spreading Adder").  When threatened these snakes will flatten their heads and necks and hiss loudly.  Unfortunately for the Hognose, when it flattens it's head, it appears  triangular and is often mistakenly for a poisonous Copperhead and ends up being exterminated.

Hognose snakes are common in our area and feed mostly on toads.

Hunter wanted to take the Hognose home to show Mom
