Desert Oasis

Taking the back roads through some dissolute desert like terrain between Brownfield, Texas and Roswell, New Mexico, we came across a roadside park that was much more than a restroom and picnic tables. First of all, it had a cluster of tall trees and we hadn't seen any trees this tall for miles. Then, immediately upon opening the car door, you could hear the birds chattering.  The birds were mostly Yellow-bellied Flycatchers and they sure seemed to be enjoying themselves as they took turns chasing and fussing at each other. There was a sign in the park telling that this roadside park doubled as an Audubon bird sanctuary.  I have to admit that we would have sailed right by this precious little jewel if a restroom hadn't been needed at just that moment.
