Trash Bash 2019

This was our 5th year for the Trash Bash. This year we cleaned up in Virginia Point area near Tiki Island with Cora's Girl Scout Troup. The Trash Bash always seems to lead to some nature discoveries and this year was no different.

This seed pod is from a Saw Palmetto tree... The seed is encased in a pod that serves as a boat to carry the seed by water to far off places.

One of the girl scouts handed me this excellent skipping rock but when I took a second look, I noticed the fossil like impressions. After studying the rock, I believe that this is the remains of a group of Cambrian Age (450 Million years old) Archeocyathids. They were tiny reef forming animals.  Another trip to this spot is in order the next time we go to Galveston.
