Outdoor Education on San Bernard river

With all the pandemic restrictions keeping us out of the parks, I starting searching for a fun place in the outdoors to have outdoor education class with the grand kids. I found the perfect spot over on the San Bernard River. Shallow clear stream with sandy bottom in the woods with nature discoveries all along the way.  I have made two trips over there and have yet to see another person.  Because of the social distancing rules, I drive back and forth alone. When we all arrive at the river, we keep our social distancing. However, I will admit that sometimes we would get so excited about a discovery that we would momentarily forget and break the barrier.  Couldn't possibly capture it all on film but here are some highlights:

Luca having a staring contest with a Brown snake

Gabriel has a gentle touch with all living creatures

                                                              Gabriel's trot line success

                                                       Gabriel posing with his fish

That is one dirty little five year old with a ribbon snake

Luca got tired on the way back.

Ryan caught a tadpole

The boys are not going to outdo Haley... she has a juvenile blotched water snake

Broad-banded water snake sometimes mistaken for a copperhead or a juvenile cottonmouth

Trying to keep up with Ryan and Jake.

Watch out! The hairs of this caterpillar will produce a rash much like an asp if it comes in contact with your skin.- Tussock Moth

The snakes weren't the only ones enjoying the sunshine.

It was a hot day so the cool water felt good

Ryan has one of the eleven snakes that we found on Thursday
