Luca yells "Poppy, the tree bark is moving"

Luca yells from the tree house that I need to hurry and come see. Two steps up the ladder and I could see what Luca was pointing at but I had no idea what it was I was looking at. It was a vibrating mass of tiny reddish flakes similar to the reddish flakes that are part of the bark on the tree trunk.

With a little research, we found that the creature under the pile of bark flakes was a lacewing larvae. Sometimes called a Junk bug or Garbage bug. They hide under junk that they collect and arrange on their backs. These larvae and their adult form are beneficial insects that eat lots of aphids so let's keep them around.
