Male and female Ruby-throated Hummingbirds at our feeder by the bedroom window. Males have a striking red throat that they use to show-off to the females. Some of these hummers might spend the winter here but most will be migrating south to the Texas coast. From the Texas coast, some will make a marathon nonstop flight across the Gulf of Mexico to their wintering grounds in Mexico and Central America. We enjoy watching their acrobatic flying style as they hover, fly backwards and even fly upside down.
