I have always been fascinated by the beautiful blooms on this bush which I would occasionally see growing in yards in west and south Texas. I found a small bush for sale at Wimberley Market Days last fall and decided I had to have one. The bush survived temperature of low 20s this past winter and is now blooming profusely. This plant is a native of Argentina. There is a similar plant (Pride of Barbados) which blooms red and is now being sold extensively in Texas nurseries. If you would like to add Bird-of-Paradise to your yard, let me know and I will collect some seeds for you.
