To my generation, this is our Great Great Grandmother White.... Born Heloise Emilie Bourgeois on June 18, 1846 near Thibodeaux, La. She was a middle child in a family of eight children born to Pierre Bourgeois and Marie Josephine Gaudet.
Emile (Heloise was dropped in later references) married Edmund White on May 20, 1868 at Houma Church. They had three children before Edmund died at the age of 30.
Husband Edmund traveled a lot bringing cattle from Texas to Louisana. He was baptized Catholic on Dec 2, 1873 at Chachahoula Church. My Dad always said that he died on a cattle drive from yellow fever. Edmund died Dec 10, 1873(written in family bible). As far as I know, no photo of Edmund exists but if one did exist it would be with the Sempey family in Louisiana as we have exhausted all the White family connections in Goliad and Karnes Counties.
Edmund leased a plantation in Iberia Parish, La from a Mr Henderson of Chicago, Il on Feb 5,1873.
1870 Census - Edmund White - 25 yrs old(overseer); Emile(wife) - 21 yrs old;
Emma(daughter) - 1 year old
Emile remarried on 6-12-1875 to Otave Sempey at Lockport Church
My guess is that this photo was taken sometime in late 1800s. Whoever has the original may have additional information(Does anyone know who has the original and maybe can help establish the date?)
Later in life - (Does anyone recognize the house in the background?)
