I am writing down this story about Granddaughter Grace because I am reaching an age that I might forget it and it is precious to me. Grace was about 5 years old and staying with Granny and Poppy for a few summer days. We had been into Seguin to do something or other and on the way home, we drove by IHOP. Grace saw the sign and asked if we could eat there tomorrow morning. Keep in mind that it was a tradition that we have Poppy's taquitos for breakfast whenever the grand kids came for a visit but I was feeling kinda lazy anyway so I thought it was a good idea to change it up and have a IHOP breakfast in the morning. Grace must have sensed that I was feeling melancholy about her wanting something besides the taquitos, so she responds with "Poppy your taquitos are really good. We can still have them lots more times." Then a little pause and she says "Will you teach me how to make them so I can make them after you go to heaven." So I said "Of course I'll teach you but if you make them then you should rename them ... Grace's taquitos." She followed with, "Even if I make them, I will always call them Poppy's taquitos."
No matter how many times I tell this story to others, I get a little teary eyed. It is truly a blessing to have grandchildren.
