I ran in my first Beach to Bay Marathon Relay on Saturday in Corpus Christi. I had a lot of fun renewing some old friendships and making some new friends. Here we are at the Surf Club on the night before the race as we carb-loaded and practiced passing the baton.
The race started at 7:00 with light rain coming down. Each relay runner had to fight the traffic and crowd to get to their hand-off station along the route. Runners in the second and third relay positions had to deal with lightning and torrential rain. I had the fourth relay position which went through the Naval Air Base for 4.6 miles. I was lucky because by the time I got the baton, the heavy rainfall had given way to light drizzle. Our team fought thru the rain, the lightning and a couple of delayed hand-offs(Kristen and I should have put in more practice on friday night) to finish in 4hr and 43 minutes.
