San Pedro Springs

I have always been interested in the natural springs of Texas.  The area where we now live has some of the largest and  most beautiful springs in the state...Barton Springs in Austin, Comal Springs in New Braunfels and Aquarina Springs in San Marcos.  I had recently visited "The Blue Hole" which is the Headwater spring of the San Antonio river and found that it only flows during very wet periods of time and has not flowed in the last few years. While visiting with those more knowledgeable about the San Antonio river, I found that there were other springs in the area that are also notable and the best of these are the San Pedro Springs in San Pedro park.  I visited the park last Tuesday morning and took these photos:

This is the location of the main spring which flowed with a large volume in the early years of San Antonio but now it only flows occasionally and with just  a fraction of that volume.

San Pedro Park established 1728....second oldest park in America...the only park older is Boston Common

Springfed swimming pool now has to be supplemented with city water

This is one of the few smaller springs that  still flows
