Zion National Park

We stayed just outside the east entrance of Zion in Zion Ponderosa Resort. We got a "Cowboy Cabin".  It was almost like camping... a bed and a heater in a log cabin. It was actually fun for a change from motel rooms. We heard that Zion would be crowded so we got an early start (7:00) the next morning.  There was very little traffic coming into the park at the east entrance and we had no traffic problems getting to the Visitor's Center.  To get into the most popular hiking spots in Zion Canyon, everyone is required to park at Visitor's Center and ride the free shuttle. So we hopped on the shuttle...

Look close and you will see "Buzz" who was a gift from Granddaughter Grace.

Our first sighting ever of Big Horn Sheep... they were about two hundred yards away and running away from us.  Felt real lucky to have seen them.

We were double lucky as we got to see this group that had already attracted attention from other travelers.

Triple lucky as we had to stop the car when three ewes and two lambs crossed the road in front of us. The lambs climbed up on some roadside rocks for this photo.

Ice Cold Virgin River

This is the end of the Riverside trail...From this point on you have to get wet to hike up to the famous "Narrows of the Virgin River"

Our trail companions from Chicago head out for the "Narrows"

The waterfalls

The canyon gets narrower as you go farther up the river

Canyon walls get higher

It's getting narrower...Some guys coming back said the water was chest deep in the "Narrows" and they turned back and so I decided this was far enough.

I'm headed back to hike on dry land

  1. Dear friends of ours drive the shuttles into Zion Canyon: Don Hall and Donna Holt. Hope you get to ride on a bus driven by one of them and can tell them you know me. They know me as Lee. I can't imagine how you stood that cold water!
